Collection includes eleven letters and postcards from Ginsberg to Lucien and Francesca Carr or to one of them individually and one letter from Peter Orlovsky to the Carrs. Ginsberg wrote while traveling in Chile, France, North Africa, India, Tibet, Canada, and the United States about his experiences, local customs and cultures, current events, writing projects, mutual friends, the use of drugs, and current and historical public figures. Current events discussed include fears of nuclear war, about which he corresponded with Bertrand Russell, the U.S. invasion of Cuba, and India's war with China. Specific literary works mentioned include his "Reality Sandwiches," William Burrough's "The Soft Machine," and Paul Thomas' "Epics, Myths, and Legends in India." He also discusses in detail Indian religion, including Durga puja and culture; the 1961 Cannes film festival and the filming of "The Connection"; teaching in Vancouver and plans to visit family in New Jersey.
